Emerging Futures appoints Karen Hirst and James McDermott to lead high-quality service development across the UK.

The appointment of two new Regional Heads of Operations signifies our commitment to developing the skills and professionalism of our workforce as we grow.

Karen Hirst

Karen, formerly Manchester Service Manager, has been with Emerging Futures for seven years and now leads services in the north:

“I’m really excited about this new role. Our dynamic services in the north make a huge impact for our service users, providing safe and effective recovery opportunities. A great example being our new community detox partnership in Kirklees, which provides people with a really accessible and solid foundation for change.”

James McDermott

James has been with us for nearly eight years and was previously our National Business Development Manager. He now takes on responsibility for services in the south:

“It is my absolute pleasure to take on this new role. Over the next 12 months we look to deliver not only better services, but also provide further opportunities for the people that work with us and those in our care. Our exciting new Training Academy will help former service users build on their skills and will provide an employment pathway for those who want to enter the workforce.”

Career development

Both internal hires, these new roles give vital support to our existing Area Service Managers in the delivery, regional development and quality agenda of our community services. Additionally, they provide our commissioners, partners and stakeholders with a strategic point of accountability.

Emerging Futures Chief Executive, Ray Jenkins, said: “I would like to congratulate Karen and James on their promotions to Regional Heads of Operations. I have had the pleasure working with them both over the past six years. They bring an unwavering passion and steadfast approach to achieving the best outcomes for our service users, their families and our communities.”
